Betfred League One Preview | 20 August

With just three rounds of fixtures remaining, the end of season Betfred League One Play-Offs are rapidly approaching.

Dewsbury Rams have already clinched the League One title and promotion to the Championship, but for Hunslet, Doncaster, Oldham, Workington Town, North Wales Crusaders and Rochdale Hornets, the race for the Play-Offs is very much alive.

Three fixtures take place this coming weekend, with all eyes turning to one game in particular.

Sunday will see local rivals Rochdale Hornets and Oldham face off in the A627 derby at the Crown Oil Arena.

A victory for Mike Ford’s Roughyeds side will give them a fighting chance of finishing in the top three, whilst a win for Rochdale would help keep their Play-Off hopes alive.

Oldham head into the game as favourites having won the last meeting between the sides – a 56-16 triumph back in April – but following the departure of Head Coach Stuart Littler and an injury to recent signing Jamie Ellis, Rochdale will be optimistic about causing an upset.

Elsewhere, second-placed Hunslet host London Skolars at the South Leeds Stadium.

Skolars are yet to win a game this season and will have to end a run of six successive defeats against Hunslet if they are to pick up anything in Leeds this weekend.

The visitors’ last victory at Hunslet came back in April 2019 when they ran out as 42-26 winners.

Victory for Hunslet will edge them one step closer to achieving a second-place finish, and therefore, a home Play-Off Semi Final.

Hunslet’s Matty Beharrel could make his 200th career appearance if selected against the Skolars.

Finally, third-placed Doncaster welcome Cornwall to the Eco-Power Stadium knowing that a win could potentially move them level on points with Hunslet, depending on the outcome of the latter's fixture.

Doncaster have won all three of the previous meetings between the sides, with the last fixture ending in a 48-16 Dons victory in April of this year.
